CurlingTimer Help

CurlingTimer is a tool used to help Level I Curling Officials (Timers) during competition games. It includes a timer for each team and a timeout or break timer. CurlingTimer may be used for several different game types and is based on the guidelines provided by the United States Curling Association (USCA).

Selecting a Game Type

To begin, select a new game type by using the File menu. File->New->. There are several game types to select from. Each game type has it's own initial timer. Additionally, for each game, options such as "Extra End" are available for each game type and have their own values according to the rules defined by the USCA.

Timing Operations and Keyboard Shortcuts

Timing with CurlingTimer is simple. Use the buttons to perform actions, or if you choose, use the keyboard shortcuts.

Curling Shortcuts

    * L: Start the Left Rock timer

    * R: Start the Right Rock timer

    * T: Start the timeout clock

    * Spacebar: Stop all timers

    * 5: Set the timeout clock for the 5 minute break

    * E: Set the Left and Right Rock timers for an extra end (time is defined by the active game type)

Keyboard shortcuts are not case sensitive. Therefor, an "L" and an 'l' are effectively the same command.

Adding Time to a Clock

Time can be quickly added or removed from any clock by clicking the '+' or '-' button next to the clock that you wish to adjust. Time can be added or subtracted from a running or stopped clock.

Additionally, the Edit -> Timers and Team Names menu can be used to adjust the time clock to an exact time. The interface allows for an adjustment of minutes and seconds for all of the clocks. The time may be reset to any time greater than 0:00.

Extra Features and Preferences

The CurlingTimer also monitors the curling official. After a continuous minute has run on either of the Left or Right Rock timers, a simple audible alert will sound. Every ten seconds after the initial alert, another alert will be heard. This is done to help ensure that the official has not accidentally left a clock running. The beep is configurable by changing the System Preference for the alert Sound.

The foreground and background colors associated with each team's rocks may be changed using the CurlingTimer->Preferences menu. A set of configurable options will be presented. If a game is running, the changes should be immediately apparent. If a game has not been started, some options, such as font size and color may not be visible.

The team names may be added to the display by editing the value in the menu Edit -> Timers and Team Names.
